Adoption

The point

  • Nurture (hard work and energy) matters more than nature (the ability we're born with).

  • Our worth is best determined by those who chose us and not just by who created us.

God didn't just create us He CHOSE us.

Ephesians 1:5 NLT

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Our worth is determined by:

Our Creator: A Picasso painting is worth more than my paintings. We have worth because God Himself created us.*

Our Price tag: We are worth what was paid for us. God gave His Only Son.**

Our Purpose: Our purpose is God's masterpiece. You are the song God sings to the world.***

About rejection

Stop letting people who reject you determine your worth! I realize it hurts... a lot. But we can't allow those people to determine our worth for the rest of our lives. Let yourself be sad for awhile. But let that wound heal and move on.

Question: If you could force someone to love you, would that love be meaningful? The answer is NO. Love only has meaning when it arrives by a choice or decision of the lover.

That's why adoption is so special

Adoption means a choice was made. Love forced by obligation or love that is faked just doesn't have the same impact.

Some of us are family because an adoption took place. That's especially meaningful. Adoption means that we are wanted and chosen.

It's also why you have to work hard

Each of you has been born with some level of physical and intellectual ability.

Your abilities are a tool. But tools are useless unless they are prepared and used. A knife is worthless until it's sharpened. Even a razor-sharp knife is useless if it stays in the drawer.

Being Einstein's son is meaningless if you don't love to learn. Being LeBron's son doesn't mean a thing if you're not willing to practice.

You can be 8 feet tall and stronger than LeBron but if you don't practice, get off the bench, and get involved in the game, it won't mean a thing.

Our ability is only about 10% of the formula. The remaining 90% is how you work that 10%. You already have everything you need to achieve. Throw your strength, soul, and sweat behind it.
